100 Year Anniversary Celebration
SAVE THIS DATE - DECEMBER 11TH
Astoria Lodge #408 will turn 100 years old on December 4, 2010. We will be having a BIG CELEBRATION on Saturday, December 11th.
Guest of Honor will be Director General William B Airey.
Astoria Lodge was instituted on December 4, 1910. They held meetings in the AAAA Athletic Club Building. The local newspaper entusiatically announced that "The Loyal Order of Moose dedicated its new lodge with appropriate exercises. Entertainment was a wrestling match between two local celebrities." Eight new members were initiated and refreshments were served.
Unfortunately, this location and the next, Rosenberg Hall, were both burned to the ground in the "great fire" of 1922 which burned all of the downtown area of Astoria. From 1925 to 1948, the Moose Temple was located at the edge of downtown in a large house (now the Clementine's Bed & Breakfast) on the corner of 8th and Exchange. The "Moose Temple" sign is still displayed on the porch. We have been in our present location since 1948. Apart from a kitchen fire in 1977 and a runaway school bus crash into the front of the building; the Lodge has gone on and is thriving.
We're looking forward to our next hundred years!!
